Todmorden Unitarian Church isn’t the kind of place you walk past without doing a double take. Built back in 1865, this Gothic Revival venue is a proper showstopper, with its arched windows, thick stonework and original fixtures that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s had its fair share of ups and downs over the years too, but these days it’s found its feet as a warm, welcoming space that feels made for celebrating. Simon and Jodie clearly thought so anyway.

Last week the pair tied the knot there in front of 76 friends and family, and from what we saw, it was everything a wedding should be. Emotional ceremony, lots of happy tears, even more photos – and by the time everyone made it outside, there was a serious appetite in the air.
Good job Hog Roast Todmorden was ready for them.
Simon and Jodie hadn’t just picked a menu off a list – they’d wanted something that felt a bit more unique to them. So Hog Roast Todmorden built them a bespoke version of our BBQ Menu, designed around the chilled, informal vibe they were going for while making sure no one got left out – and it worked a treat.

The beef brisket especially was a standout success – slow cooked, falling apart, the kind of thing that makes people lose their train of thought because every part of them is focused on the food. Marinated chicken thighs were another crowd favourite, juicy enough that pretty much everyone circled back for more. And for anyone after something lighter, herby salmon fillets with a little slice of lemon brought a bit of freshness to the spread. And the veggie burgers? Hearty, full of flavour, and the perfect alternative for our veggie friends to dive into.
Adding a bit more excitement to the menu, we laid out rolls, wraps and plenty of sauce options so guests could put their own spin on things – which people seemed to really enjoy. There’s something about building your own plate that makes the food feel even better.
The whole afternoon had a lovely relaxed energy to it. Casual, unhurried, full of good conversation and, thanks to Hog Roast Todmorden, some truly incredible food. And the weather – which had been keeping everyone on edge – finally came through with some proper blue skies breaking through the clouds.
