Nothing – and I mean nothing – beats a sunny Friday afternoon, celebrating with great people and stuffing your face with incredible food. And last Friday, that’s exactly what the team at South Lakes Housing got to enjoy.
If you’re unfamiliar with South Lakes Housing, they are an incredible not-for-profit housing association, providing affordable homes for rent and sale across Lakelands. The team here works hard all year round, and had more than earned some downtime.
To boost morale and help the staff let their hair down, a summer colleague event was hosted last week at the Netherfield Cricket Club. Hog Roast Kendal was picked to cater for this event, and we couldn’t be more proud of the results!
Sam, ever the cool, calm, and collected team leader, was at the helm. He and the Hog Roast Kendal team arrived at the venue hours before the 5pm serve and they made every second count. From pitching the gazebo to firing up the grills and getting the meat on the flames, our whole crew moved like one well-oiled machine. Nothing lagged, no one was left twiddling their thumbs and our passion could be tasted in every bite.
With 80 guests to feed, our Gourmet BBQ Menu was a classic choice and saw the South Lakes Housing team treated to classic burgers with yummy melting cheese, handmade sausages, sticky ribs, and Thai chicken kebabs that were a real crowd-pleaser.
On the side, we kept things fresh and simple with coleslaw and a green leaf salad, along with a mix of traditional and sweet potato fries (because why choose just one?). For the plant-based crowd, we had BBQ pulled jackfruit and veggie burgers on offer, which made everyone feel included.
After the food, the games kicked off – quite literally. There was a friendly game of rounders on the pitch, plus face painting stalls and family fun both inside and outside the clubhouse.
The celebrations were made even better thanks to a few local businesses who donated raffle prizes, which helped raise funds for Manna House. Plus colleagues brought along loads of food for King’s Food Bank too, showcasing their giving spirit.
In the end, it was one of those afternoons where everything just clicked. A warm atmosphere, brilliant company, and full plates all round. Big thanks to South Lakes Housing for having us – Hog Roast Kendal had a brill time!
